Overview
Veterans Monuments
America’s veterans have played a crucial role in our nation’s ongoing quest for freedom, and chances are that you know or are related to one of the heroes that have fought to make this country what it is today. So why not take a break from your vacation to check out one or more of the tributes that Myrtle Beach has to offer? From the South Carolina Civil War Museum to Warbird Park at the now-defunct Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, the Grand Strand has plenty of places to go for those looking to honor and remember former and current members of the country’s armed forces.
Warbird Park
Located at the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base (now home to The Market Common), this park features authentic military aircraft, historic markers with details about the base and its service members, and a viewing area of the former runway, which is now in use at the Myrtle Beach International Airport.
Veterans Cafe
The walls at this breakfast and lunch spot are decorated with military memorabilia, making for an atmosphere that falls somewhere between the museum and cafe. Located at the back gate of the old Myrtle Beach Air Force base (now The Market Common), Veterans Cafe is a great place to hang out with or meet current and former armed forces members while enjoying an authentic Philly cheesesteak.
Hall of Heroes
This Sands Resorts space is dedicated to paying tribute to all of our service members, past and present. The Hall of Heroes features a scaled replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, a Gold Dog Tag display that honors all of those who died during combat from the end of the Vietnam War to September 11, 2001, and also those who have given their lives during the War on Terror.
