Description
About Abuelo’s
This national chain takes Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine to a new level. With the English translation of “Grandfather’s,” Abuelo’s feels like a home-cooking version of Mexican food rather than a rehash of the same traditional fare. A full bar and patio deck make this a popular hangout for folks shopping at the adjoining Coastal Grand Mall.
Abuelo’s Food
Abuelo’s distinguishes itself by using quality ingredients unlike many Mexican-American restaurants. Fresh steaks, seafood, beef and chicken are used to make the creative enchilada combinations, like the Enchiladas Del Cozumel, featuring guacamole, shrimp, scallops, mushrooms, fresh spinach, roasted peppers and covered in a rich white wine sauce. The Tex-Mex portion of the menu offers authentic dishes, such as the Monterrey Chicken or Fajita Chimichanga. The fajitas are outstanding, offering mixtures of seafood and landfood with grilled onions, peppers and more. Dessert includes Flan, Dulce de Leche Cheesecake and Margarita Pie.
Abuelo’s Atmosphere
Abuelo’s sets the mood for Mexican with its Spanish-inspired architecture and a statue of a grandfather serving as the centerpiece of the dining area. The bar area is a bit more casual and draws a nice happy hour crowd for discounted drinks and appeitzers. The patio deck is a nice social scene when the weather is mild.
