Beat the Winter Blues in Myrtle Beach
Winter’s here at the beach but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to do. Myrtle Beach winters can be as full and as fun as you make them! Restaurant events, concerts, comedy shows and bonfires are happening all winter long on the Grand Strand and we’ve got the rundown on it all!
If you’re looking for a way to warm up then take Highway 17 Bypass South to Brookgreen Gardens for a tea party. A Mad Hatter Luncheon and Tea will be held on January 15, 22, and 29. Wear your finest hat and warm your bones on with some tea and good friends. If you’re coming in February, you’re just in time for the Winter Teas, held every Saturday. Sip on fine teas and munch on tea party delicacies like scones and other treats. Brookgreen recommends calling ahead for seating and reservations.
Get in a good laugh at one of the many comedy shows this winter. Comedy Cabana, Stand-Up Carolina and the Carolina Improv Company put on some of the best shows in the area. Carolina Improv Company will bring back its hilarious improvisation acts in “The Unreal Housewives of Myrtle Beach- Reunion Flashbacks.” Laugh along with the cast as they mock popular reality television series. Rollin’ Jay Moore who started his comedy career in South Carolina will perform at Comedy Cabana. He’s been seen on The Drew Carey Show and Collateral Damage. Basile, the voice of Bullwinkle, Dale Jones and Drew Thomas will also take the stage at Comedy Cabana. Stand-Up Carolina will play host to Kyle Grooms who’s known for stints on Comedy Central and Chris Franjola from Chelsea Lately. If laughter really is the best medicine, you won’t be sick for a very, very long time.
Live music on the Grand Strand is never hard to come by, even in the winter. The House of Blues has a slew of shows with headliners like Hinder, Flogging Molly, BuckCherry and NOFX. If you’re looking for a more soothing sound than rock music, head to the Alabama Theatre to see Eddie Miles perform “A Salute to Elvis and Country Legends” or listen to Daniel O’Donnell’s unique blend of Irish music, 60’s pop and country. Engelbert Humperdinck will be at there in concert as well, just before the start of spring. Check your favorite bars for a listing of live performances every weekend!
Whenever you come to town, you want to have fun in Myrtle Beach. That’s why, even in the winter, we are game for a festival or party. Dick’s Last Resort will host a Mardi Gras parade and party at Barefoot Landing with fun and games (and beads) for the whole family! The Second Annual WinterFest Oyster Roast will be held at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach. Fresh oysters and great beers are the focus of this fun event. La Belle Amie Vineyard in North Myrtle Beach host Saturday bonfires with live music, great wine and delicious cuisine through the months of January and February. Their themed festivals begin later in the winter with “Remember When Oldies Fest” and the “Winter Parrot Head Fest.”
If you’ve worked up a great appetite, don’t miss Restaurant Week Myrtle Beach. A handful of local restaurants gear up for nine days of food and fun. Special prixe fixe menus plus promotions and dicounts help make it easier to try restaurants you otherwise may not. Restaurants range from small, casual spots to swanky, upscale hotels. Restaurant Week is from January 14-22, 2011.
