During the busy spring and summer seasons, most beaches along the Grand Strand prohibit the use of tents. Some less crowded areas allow tents during the fall and winter. Most allow for small shading devices such as baby tents to protect young children from the sun. Beach umbrellas are also allowed with some size restrictions.
When searching through various accommodations in Myrtle Beach you will see that some rooms are labeled as Oceanfront while others are labeled Ocean View.
This can be a little confusing since both offer views of the ocean. Oceanfront rooms offer the best views that the hotel or resort has to offer. These rooms face the ocean and provide sweeping views of the coastline. These rooms are typically more expensive but the trade-off is waking up to an unobstructed view of the ocean.
Ocean View rooms can be deceiving. Any room that has even the slightest view of the ocean can be considered “Ocean View.” Other balconies or other hotels may obstruct the view. On the other hand, your Ocean View room may offer a beautiful view with very little blocking your vision. These rooms typically cost less than Oceanfront rooms, but you may not have a perfect view.

Whether you’d be better off visiting in fall/winter or spring/summer depends on what you’re looking for. The summer is high season when the biggest crowds flock to Myrtle Beach. Attractions such as waterparks and even some restaurants, particularly those located at hotels, are only open during the season. During the off-season months, you can find great hotel deals. The beach is less crowded, though still pleasant for walking and shell hunting. Restaurants and attractions that stay open are also less busy.
